What is Medical Qigong?

Medical Qigong is the most ancient pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is the foundational energetic alchemical branch focusing on balancing and strengthening the vital lifeforce electromagnetic energy that pervades all living beings on Earth. Other pillars of TCM include acupuncture, Chinese medical massage and herbal medicine. Acupuncture and qigong have been widely recognized by allopathic medicine and it's agencies, including the National Institute of Health (NIH), as being legitimate, credible and effective health-promoting, complementary modalities. See links to published articles and references by NIH here and here

According to TCM practitioners, being in a state of health is about having a strong and balanced Qi within your body. As stated in the section above, Qi is translated as “life force” and “vital energy” and is what makes us feel healthy and alive. Qi is essentially electromagnetic energy, which is present within not only all humans, but all living things on Earth. Choosing to have strong and balanced Qi allows you to live more in harmony within your body and surroundings.

Certain obstructions can block the Qi within our bodies which can cause us to fall out of harmony. These obstructions can be caused by a variety of things: such as physical, emotional and/or mental trauma, physical injuries, ancestral lineage traumas & grief, dietary toxins and environmental toxins. According to TCM, the root cause of all disease can be traced to critical imbalances within a person’s body and vital energies or Qi.

Medical Qigong seeks bring us back to balance by harmonizing the Qi within and around our bodies through purgation, tonification and regulation. Purgation allows the space for toxins to be purged from our bodies. Tonification allows for the space freed up by purgation to be filled with life-affirming, fresh and vital Qi. Regulation allows for any remaining imbalances to be smoothed out to encourage and support optimal health with the body.

It is most effective when the patient is willing to make perspective and lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and well-being. This may include confronting potentially challenging emotional issues, conditioned responses and forgiving past transgressions. It also includes movement exercises, meditations and possibly prayers (if appropriate) as prescriptions. Basically being willing to see, strengthen and work with what is RIGHT with you, your body and your life to dissolve and resolve what is no longer serving you.

The results can facilitate healing in a much more efficient and effective way, for example recovery from a knee surgery may take half the time estimated, heart palpitations experienced several times per day could be reduced to a few times per week and eventually eliminated, or the accelerated healing of a broken bone may result in having a cast removed weeks prior to the estimated time.

In summary, MQ Therapy supports the healthy functioning of the body’s systems, of clearer and more expansive mental functioning and of healthier, more peaceful emotional health. It is complimentary to and not intended to replace allopathic and other medicines. When applied in concert with allopathic and other medicines, it results in decreasing the frequency and intensity of illness and encourages longer lasting effects. This is made more effective by how much the patient participates in her/his/their own healing by following the Qigong (movement) prescriptions, meditation and/or prayer prescriptions and any needed dietary changes.
