About

Harmony Qigong Healing was founded in 2022 by Irene Ross-Piazza to offer a safe, sacred healing space for those seeking their ideal state of health, well-being and wholeness. And for those who desire to harmonize their true nature with their current self with dignity and honor.

Irene Ross-Piazza began her healing journey as a child over 30 years ago with unexplained experiences and knowing with angels and saints to guide the way. She discovered Reiki with her partner at 18 years of age and became a Reiki Master Teacher at 20. Her parents felt that Reiki was witchcraft and instead encouraged her to complete her university studies. While earning her Bachelors of Science in Management and Accountancy, Irene continued her healing path in Meditation, Reiki, Seichem-Seikim, Esoteric Alchemy, and Taoist Alchemy. While sitting for and passing the Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) exam, she trained in Chen Style Silk-Reeling Spiral Power Qigong and Tai Chi. She continued training in Chen Style Silk-Reeling Spiral Power for 15 years while working in the tax, NFP and small business consulting fields and even opened & operated her own CPA firm. After doing this for 16 years, she chose to explore her concurrent healing path. She began studying Medical Qigong of the Dragon Gate Sect lineage with Doctor of Chinese Medicine, Doctor of Medical Qigong, and Taoist Priest, Dr. Bernard Shannon. Irene is currently a Medical Qigong Practitioner.

What is Qigong?

Qigong, pronounced chi-gong, is part of ancient Chinese Medicine. The literal translation of "Qi" is the lifeforce that pervades all living things; and of "Gong" is skill, such as that developed by applying consistent effort to then become effortless. Many of Yoda's sayings are steeped in the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu: "Do or do not, there is no try" is akin to "Do nothing and leave nothing undone." A similar principle applies to finding the Formless within the form. Through 1,500 year-old, refined slow movements and postures proven to promote longevity, physical, emotional and mental balance, increased mental clarity, and connection to true nature within through harmonizing with Nature, Qigong aligns us with our true path to health, wellness and more balanced lives.

What is Medical Qigong?

Medical Qigong is an ancient pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is the foundational energetic alchemical branch focusing on balancing and strengthening the vital lifeforce electromagnetic energy that pervades all living beings on Earth. Other pillars of TCM include acupuncture, Chinese medical massage and herbal medicine. Acupuncture and qigong have been widely recognized by allopathic medicine and it's agencies, including the National Institute of Health (NIH), as being legitimate, credible and effective health-promoting, complementary modalities. See links to published articles and references by NIH here and here

According to TCM practitioners, being in a state of health is about having a strong and balanced Qi within your body. As stated in the section above, Qi is translated as “life force” and “vital energy” and is what makes us feel healthy and alive. Qi is essentially electromagnetic energy, which is present within not only all humans, but all living things on Earth. Choosing to have strong and balanced Qi allows you to live more in harmony within your body and surroundings.

Certain obstructions can block the Qi within our bodies which can cause us to fall out of harmony. These obstructions can be caused by a variety of things: such as physical, emotional and/or mental trauma, physical injuries, ancestral lineage traumas & grief, dietary toxins and environmental toxins. According to TCM, the root cause of all disease can be traced to critical imbalances within a person’s body and vital energies or Qi.

Medical Qigong seeks bring us back to balance by harmonizing the Qi within and around our bodies through purgation, tonification and regulation. Purgation allows the space for toxins to be purged from our bodies. Tonification allows for the space freed up by purgation to be filled with life-affirming, fresh and vital Qi. Regulation allows for any remaining imbalances to be smoothed out to encourage and support optimal health with the body.

It is most effective when the patient is willing to make perspective and lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and well-being. This may include confronting potentially challenging emotional issues, conditioned responses and forgiving past transgressions. It also includes movement exercises, meditations and possibly prayers (if appropriate) as prescriptions. Basically being willing to see, strengthen and work with what is RIGHT with you, your body and your life to dissolve and resolve what is no longer serving you.

The results can facilitate healing in a much more efficient and effective way, for example recovery from a knee surgery may take half the time estimated, heart palpitations experienced several times per day could be reduced to a few times per week and eventually eliminated, or the accelerated healing of a broken bone may result in having a cast removed weeks prior to the estimated time.

In summary, MQ Therapy supports the healthy functioning of the body’s systems, of clearer and more expansive mental functioning and of healthier, more peaceful emotional health. It is complimentary to and not intended to replace allopathic and other medicines. When applied in concert with allopathic and other medicines, it results in decreasing the frequency and intensity of illness and encourages longer lasting effects. This is made more effective by how much the patient participates in her/his/their own healing by following the Qigong (movement) prescriptions, meditation and/or prayer prescriptions and any needed dietary changes.

What is a Medical Qigong Treatment Like?

Medical Qigong's goal is to correct bio-energetic imbalances and obstructions created from the stress of daily living, poor diet, physical injuries, sedentary lifestyle, suppressed emotions & grief, aging and childhood trauma. Medical Qigong (MQ) treatment works in tandem with allopathic and other medicine. It allows the body to strengthen, harmonize and regulate it's internal physical systems, including (but not limited to) the viscera, the nervous, endocrine, digestive & immune systems. By returning the physical body to greater harmony, MQ treatment also facilitates the release of buried emotions, deeply-held internal stress, childhood & ancestral trauma and mental blocks. Besides feeling lighter, the benefit of releasing trapped energy and trauma from the body is that obstructions are not allowed to culminate into more serious dense formations, such as polyps or tumors. Other benefits include: greater mental clarity, physical balance, emotional balance, rooted and centeredness, improved rest, pain relief and a greater sense of discernment.

In an MQ treatment, a practitioner seeks to purge toxins, tonify internal organs and regulate the client's qi. If in person, the client lays down fully clothed on a massage table. If receiving a remote treatment, the client would lay down fully clothed in a comfortable place in their home. If in person, the practitioner often works about a foot away from the client's body facilitating the release of toxic bio-energy and guiding the smooth movement of Qi. Either remote or in person, the client may feel varying sensations as the Qi moves, such as tingling, coolness, vibration, warmth and sometimes twitching as obstructions are dissolved and life-affirming patterns are restored. Please see our Informed Consent Form here

In either case, the client will be given qigong exercises/meditations/and or tones to assist in their ongoing healing. Tailored specifically for each client, Medical Qigong exercises, meditations and tones use physical movement, breathing methods and mental intention to return the body to harmony and bring the client closer to her/his/their True Nature. These effective prescriptions are similar to herbs prescribed by an acupuncturist or pharmaceutical medicine prescribed by an allopathic doctor.

Qigong Sessions

As stated above, the client remains fully clothed because Qi moves like wind or electricity, it is the electromagnetic energy that pervades all living beings. Usually, sessions are relaxing and rejuvenating. Sometimes uncomfortable, suppressed emotions or memories may surface to be released either during or after the treatment. Since one of the primary goals of Medical Qigong therapy is to release toxic emotions from the body, having an emotional release is wonderful progress on the journey to greater physical, mental and emotions health and well-being.

Please note that like any other system of fitness or health care, Qigong is not a panacea but a highly effective health care practice. Many health care professionals recommend Qigong as an vital form of complementary and alternative medicine.
